♥ my gals~

High school reunion, as we recall our high-school amateurish production of Romeo & Juliet, relationships, classmates, under a candle atmosphere accompanied by Italian-Japanese pasta conctions.

It makes me realize I had missed them so, and it has been a long time since the five of us were reunited again. We used to be as close as treacle is to waffles. Before each of us ended up for further studies in different cities – London, Canada, US, Milan.

We will be meeting again the end of September! To see my best friend X’s little rabbit which hops uncaged all around the house, and for her mother’s lovely pasta bolognese.

After the reunion, I had a dream about high school, and the five of us, the same as we always were.

My dear best friend has grown up to be an excellent broker and financial analyst! Would you believe she is twiddling with spreadsheets! J is in a similar field, and joined an accounting firm since her return from Milan.

M, our resident marketing star, was trying to convince us of the merits of her chocolate custard pudding. We all thought it was hideous. But she tried very, very hard.

Esther was so excited about taking a ‘spooky backalley photograph’ for me…

I like it because it almost seems like I was superimposed, and I did no editing beyond the vignetted border!

E gave us little paper bead bracelets from her aid work in ___! I’ve forgotten where she was really, she is always travelling some place or some other where for her NGO work, and she is really blossoming in her art – I believe one day she will find herself and her niche.

I’ve known E since primary school – from the first day in Chinese dance, where I recall her sitting next to me with short hair and a bright pink body suit, her legs too short to touch the ground, and swinging her legs back and fro.

E is an amazing artist, and at the age of 7, she already drew a Chinese portrait of 1000 Chinese goldfish which was displayed at the Singapore Youth Festival. Her art is quite modern-ish surreal, and I will share more of her art pieces one day.

We used to read Magic Faraway tree stories in her bedroom.

I love E, and I’ve missed her company so.  Shucks, I’ve missed everyone.

Now or never;

Some pictures from last week… I finished Amy Tan’s Saving Fish from Drowning, and it was utterly brilliant, I loved it even more than the last Kate Atkinson book I read, which is quite radical given popular prejudices against Amy Tan (directed at you, Beansprouts) and it might just be my favourite book in the list so far. I really enjoyed it and did an unconscious comparison with Conan Doyle for much of the journey, but more about that next time. It makes me rather intrigued to meet Amy Tan in real life (where is she currently residing?) and the book is definitely on my Top 5 list this year.

My idea of bliss. A good book, tenzaru udon, and soft shell crab on the side. I am seriously not sure who is the star.

I’m a new sworn fan of Bonitochico, go local designers! Their designs might be simple, but they are tremendously versatile and can be matched for night or day.

Please keep me off the t.v. I never used to watch t.v. But now even a sappy Hong Kong courtroom drama (Hong Kong law no less!) is enough to keep me glued to the screen, though everything is too saccharine sweet.

Now or never, baby make up your mind.

Now baby or never ’cause I been so good to you
Now baby or never ’cause I’ve been so lonesome, too
Now baby or never if I mean anything to you
Now baby or never ’cause I’ve wasted so much time
Now baby or never and you must make up your mind
Now baby or never it ain’t no fault of mine

It’s got to be yes or no
It’s either you stay or go
You can’t leave me on the shelf
You gotta commit yourself
It’s either you will, or you won’t fall In love with me
